SERDANG: The agriculture sector needs to be further developed so that it becomes a new source of wealth for the country, said the Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that apart from ensuring food security for the country, the agriculture sector can provide lucrative incomes to more Malaysians who are willing to take part.
“As such, we must change our mindset from looking at this sector as one which can only provide a minimum income for the people,” he said when launching the National Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen Day and the Malaysia Food Festival 2017.
The event, organised by the Agriculture and Agro-based Ministry, is being held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park here until Sunday.
Najib also announced a RM7mil allocation by the Government for area livestock breeders and fishermen’s association.
Each association will receive RM30,000 which will go towards strengthening their respective organisations..
