JOHOR BARU: Two night market traders escaped the gallows after the High Court here found them not guilty of murder.

Justice Datuk Sofian Abdul Razak ruled that the defence was able to cast reasonable doubt on the prosecution's case.

Both men — Devidass Anthony Samy, 34, and Poobalan Ragu, 28 — wept openly when the verdict was read out.

The duo were alleged to have killed Madhu Kannan Mariemuthu, 33, at a restaurant in Taman Perling at 5.32am on July 7 2013.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Azizah Mohamad prosecuted while Datin Freda Sabapathy represented both the accused.
