KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman will provide assistance to Britain’s Scotland Yard if there is a request in the wake of the attack on London Bridge and Borough Market, said Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

The Inspector-General of Police said the police are always ready to assist other law-enforcement agencies, especially regarding terror threats.

“We will help them (Scotland Yard) if requested. We have always maintained close cooperation with Scotland Yard, thus we will provide any form of assistance if they need,” he told The Star yesterday.

The IGP said Malaysia remained on alert for any possible terror threat on home soil.

“We cannot afford to let our guard down,” he added.

Bukit Aman Special Branch director Comm Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Ramadan is a sensitive time, during which militants might choose to strike.

“We must be extra vigilant against all threats, foreign or domestic. We are particularly concerned about lone-wolf attacks where the assailant can strike anywhere and at any time,” he said.

Focusing on pre-emptive and proactive measures, Comm Mohamad Fuzi said the police, especially the Counter Terrorism Division, are working hard to gather actionable intelligence.

“We cannot take things for granted, and tightening security is a must. We will also increase international cooperation with our counterparts overseas,” he said.

While police have been doing all they can to prevent attacks in Malaysia, Comm Mohamad Fuzi urged the public to also do their part.

“Members of the public should alert the police if they encounter any suspicious individual or activity,” he said.
