Car up in flames after crash on Penang Bridge


Heat is on: Fire razing the car at Km1.4 of the bridge.

GEORGE TOWN: Firefighters took about 50 minutes to put out a fire which damaged a car on the Penang Bridge.

State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Mohd Azman Hussin said the fire happened at Km1.4 of the bridge heading towards George Town at about 2am yesterday.

“The car was believed to have caught fire after an accident.

“The car was 60% destroyed at the front and the engine section,” he said in a statement.

On the same day, a room in a flat in Relau was destroyed in a morning fire.

Mohd Azman said the incident happened on the third floor of the high-rise block at about 7.30am.

“We arrived at 7.45am and the fire was under control at 8.05am. The fire was extinguished at about 8.30am.

“The cause of fire has yet to be determined and no casualty was reported in the incident,” he added.
