DAP betraying trust of non-Muslims, says MCA

 PETALING JAYA: DAP has betrayed the trust of non-Muslims with the president of PKR, its Pakatan Harapan partner, admitting the possibility of hudud law being implemented in the country, says MCA publicity bureau chairman Datuk Chai Kim Sen.

Chai said Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's remarks were akin to admitting that Pakatan supported hudud and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.

During an interview with Al Jazeera's UpFront programme last Friday, Dr Wan Azizah was asked about her stance on hudud laws. She responded that "hudud is not implemented unless all the things that are supposed to be in line of justice are there."

Chai said Dr Wan Azizah's statement "attests to the fact that DAP has once again betrayed the non-Muslims."

Chai said DAP's constant emphasis and promises that Pakatan would not implement hudud law were "just lies and nonsense".

He said it was similar to DAP's previous promises that it would not implement hudud law or establish a theocratic state.

"But in the end, events and circumstances have proven DAP to be misleading non-Muslim voters," he said.

He asked whether DAP would continue to deceive the non-Muslim community by claiming that it was against hudud law.

Chai noted that Pakatan members, including Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Pakatan chief secretary Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, were not against the amendments.

He said PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also expressed his support for Hadi's Private Member's Bill with Anwar saying that the efforts to empower the Syariah courts should be agreed upon by all parties.

Despite this, Chai said DAP had remained silent towards all declarations made by its allies.

"Now that Wan Azizah has spoken the truth, it is clear that DAP knew it for a long time and was supporting hudud law," he said.
