Girl, 12, shot and injured by bird hunters

ALOR SETAR: A 12-year-old girl from Kampung Lubuk Keriang in Pokok Sena near here was injured after being shot by bird hunters on Sunday.

She was rushed to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police said pellets from a Topper 12-gauge single-shot shotgun fired by the hunters hit Nur Syahida Bakar, a Year Six pupil of SK Tualang in Pokok Sena near here.

The girl sustained injuries to her head, chest, both legs, right shoulder and right arm in the 6.30pm incident on Sunday.

Police said the victim's father Bakar Saad, 45, a farmer, heard a loud sound coming from the kitchen of his house while he was having dinner in the living room.

He rushed to the kitchen and found his injured daughter there, police said, adding that two men who lived nearby then came over to apologise. One of them was holding the weapon, which they were using to hunt birds.

The case is being investigated under Section 37 of the Firearms Act 1960.
