Argument over kitten lands jobless man in court

KUALA LUMPUR: A 30-year-old jobless man was fined RM1,000 by a magistrate's court here after he pleaded guilty to damaging his sister's car.

Magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som handed down the sentence after Liew Toh Choon admitted to the charge Monday.

Toh Choon was charged with damaging the car belonging to his 36-year-old  Mei Yei at their Bandar Tasik Selatan house at about 9pm on April 14.

It was stated in the statement of facts that Toh Choon became angry and tried to hit his sister after she put his kitten outside their house.

He then took an iron rod and broke one of the headlights on his sister's car.

DPP Ezrene Zakariah asked the court to hand down a deterrent sentence to serve as a lesson to the accused.

She said the accused should control his emotions and anger, which in this case was caused by a kitten.

Toh Choon, who was unrepresented, said he was unemployed and later asked for the court to reduce his sentence.
