Wisma Putra takes note of Mediacorp apology over comedy show

PETALING JAYA: The Foreign Ministry has taken note of an apology made by Singapore's Mediacorp Channel 5 and Singaporean comedian Najip Ali for poking fun at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"The Government of Malaysia views seriously the offensive comments and insinuations made against the Malaysian leadership and hopes that such an occurrence will not be repeated," it said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Ministry said that Malaysia and Singapore will continue to work towards elevating bilateral relations to greater heights for the mutual benefit of both countries. "It is therefore imperative that this relationship is nurtured in the spirit of harmony and mutual respect," it said.

Najip had hosted a segment of the comedy show OK Chope! where participants were asked to fill in the blank to complete the sentence “Najib slams … for threatening Malaysia’s progress. ”

The episode was aired live on Wednesday, March 29 at 7.30pm.
