Suspect in Pastor Koh's case to be charged with extortion

Raymond Koh.

PETALING JAYA: The 30-year-old suspect who was arrested over the abduction of Pastor Raymond Koh Keng Joo (pic) is expected to be charged at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

Speaking about the arrest, Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said that the man arrested is not involved in the case.

"He is expected to be charged under Section 385 of the Penal Code for attempting to extort the victim’s family. Investigations found that the suspect had no part in the abduction,” he said, adding that the probe was ongoing.

SAC Fadzil urged those with information to come forward to assist the investigation.

It was reported that that the man was arrested a day after contacting the victim’s family for a ransom for the pastor’s release last Wednesday.

Koh was abducted from his car by a group of men along Jalan SS4B/10, Petaling Jaya on Feb 13.

A CCTV video, believed to contain footage of the abduction, showed three black SUVs stopping in the middle of the road.

Shortly after that, two of the SUVs were driven away followed by a light-coloured car, believed to be Koh’s Honda Accord and the other SUV.
