GEORGE TOWN: The remand order for the couple (pix) detained over the death of their Indonesian maid has been extended by six days.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the couple’s original remand order expired on Sunday and was extended by a magistrate’s court here to Saturday.
He said the extension of the remand was obtained on Sunday.
The 42-year-old woman and her 48-year-old husband, who were detained on Feb 26, would now be in custody until March 11.
It was reported that the couple’s 38-year-old maid allegedly fell from the staircase of the double-storey house in Jelutong at about 12.45 midnight on Feb 25.
The maid who had been working for the couple for two years, was reportedly found unconscious only at about 11.50am the same day.
The post-mortem showed that the cause of death was a blunt force trauma to the chest.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Another maid to the couple, a 22-year-old Cambodian, has been remanded for 14 days after her arrest on March 1.
