PAS and Pribumi announce framework for GE14 cooperation

PETALING JAYA: PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) have released a joint statement saying that a draft is being formulated for the two parties to work together during the 14th general election.

In the statement by PAS' Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (pic) and Pribumi's Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, it was announced that both parties had met earlier on Wednesday to discuss the prospects of working together.

"Today's meeting refined the framework of political cooperation between PAS and Pribumi in facing the next election.

"Some positive resolutions were also made in an effort to ensure cooperation between both parties," it said.

The statement added that the framework for the cooperation would be refined by the leadership of both parties and then signed by both party presidents as soon as possible.

"Today's meeting has also agreed to form a 'Technical Committee' with PAS and Pribumi to carry out follow-up actions on the decisions made by both parties," it said.

Tuan Ibrahim is PAS deputy president while Mukhriz is his Pribumi counterpart.

A possible cooperation between PAS and Pribumi had been proposed earlier but PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had raised objections to working with DAP which is allied to Pribumi.

Following this, Pribumi chairman, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said that he did not need PAS to win the election. He, however, later said he was still open to working with the Islamist party.
