City Hall gives KL house owners six months to submit renovation plans

KUALA LUMPUR: City Hall (DBKL) will give house owners who have carried out renovation and extension works six months to submit building plans for the purpose of coordination and approval under the new guidelines.

DBKL Corporate Planning Department director Khalid Zakaria said the 'amnesty' programme for illegal construction would be opened from Jan 1 to June 30, 2017.

"During the period, house owners who submit building renovation or extension plans for work that has been completed or ongoing will not be fined for having carried out renovation without authorisation or approval," he said in a statement here Thursday.

He said starting Jan 1, DBKL would enforce new guidelines for renovation works of the standard size of single-storey, double-storey and three-storey terrace houses in Kuala Lumpur.

It is to replace the renovation guidelines for single-storey and double-storey terrace houses which has been used since May 15, 2013, he said.

Khalid said the new guidelines did not apply for town house, clustered, detached, bungalows and houses under the strata ownership.

He said the standard lot terrace houses referred to houses built on a plot of land with a width of not more than 18 feet (5,490mm).

Khalid said DBKL would enforce the guidelines on the use of reflectors and safety glass on buildings in Kuala Lumpur effective Jan 1.
