KLANG: Ten units of newly constructed chalets in a resort hotel owned by Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos have been bulldozed by the Sabak Bernam District Council because they were unlicensed.
The controversial Red Shirts leader is now claiming that he is being victimised.
The property, Sekin Fishermen Village Hotel and Resort in Sekinchan, was also sealed by the local council yesterday for operating without a licence.
Following the action, Jamal claimed he was targeted by the Selangor state government due to his frequent criticism of the state administration.
He said the order to demolish the chalets is in retaliation to his protest in front of the state secretariat building yesterday.
“I was only voicing out people’s concerns. Why target me? This is a clear case of power abuse,” he said.
On Wednesday, Jamal staged a protest, wearing only two towels, at the entrance of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin’s office in Shah Alam, demanding to shower at the mentri besar’s office following a water cut at his house.
Yesterday morning, the Sabak Bernam District Council issued a notice to the resort hotel, saying it would be sealed for operating without a licence.
Hours later, a team of enforcement officers arrived at the premises and bulldozed the chalets built without development permit.
Jamal claimed that in the last five years, he has been trying to apply for a licence for his resort hotel, but all his applications were not approved.
“There are many other businesses that operate without licences in that area. Why was I targeted?
“I will reveal these illegal businesses and challenge the state administration to be fair,” he said, adding that he would report Azmin to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for abuse of power.
Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim said the resort hotel had been in business for about five years and many buildings inside the premises were illegal.
He said no development order was obtained before the construction of new buildings or expansions.
