KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has expressed confidence that the ringgit will recover.
“With the recent changes and developments, we are confident the ringgit will recover.
“It is due to speculation by outsiders and the uncertainties in the United States that the ringgit dropped, and not because the ringgit is weak,” he said when closing the seminar To Uphold The Institution of the Penghulu at Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.
He also warned that external threats did not merely come from militant groups such as the Islamic State but from outside forces that were bent on determining who should govern the country.
Najib said political stability, positive growth and infrastructural development would help Malaysia’s economy grow from the current RM1.3 trillion to RM2 trillion in the next seven years.
He reminded the 620 penghulu that they were leaders in their respective sub-districts and must play a role in providing feedback on the problems and needs of the grassroots.
“You (penghulu) must not pretend not to know or turn a blind eye as that will not give us a true picture.
“We, the Government, want to know as this will allow us to fashion policies that are apt,” he said.
However, Najib acknowledged that while government policies might be sound, it was during their implementation that problems arose.
He also reminded the penghulu to advise the people not to believe wholesale what they read on social media, adding that the Opposition’s goal was to mislead the people with lies.
