IGP assures thorough probe into Maria Chin death threat

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has given assurance that a thorough investigation would be carried out on the death threat and live bullet allegedly received by Bersih 2.0 chair Maria Chin Abdullah in an envelope.

Khalid, however, expressed his disappointment at Maria for "meddling with evidence" when she held the bullet to show reporters at a press conference.

"She has lodged a report so we will investigate," he said.

He said Maria should not have handled the bullet as evidence via fingerprints would be destroyed.

"Next time, if there's anything, keep it first. Don't meddle. Give it to us to investigate. Don't destroy the evidence available," he said.

"What are we to find now? The actual fingerprint won't be there. Only hers," Khalid added.

A day after she was released from detention, Maria held a press conference and claimed that she and her family received an envelope with a death threat message that said “LAST WARNING IF NOT R.I.P Marina and Family”, along with a bullet in it.
