Bersih 5: Hishamuddin Rais arrested


PETALING JAYA: Another member of the Bersih 2.0 steering committee - Hishamuddin Rais - has been arrested.

The activist was arrested in Bangsar Utama on Saturday morning.

Hishammuddin is the second person to be arrested on Saturday, following the arrest of Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos at about 1.30 am.

Police began their crackdown on Friday with the arrests of Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and Bersih secretariat officer Mandeep Singh.

DAP’s Seremban MP Anthony Loke, former Pandamaran assemblyman Ronnie Liu, and members Jimmy Wong and Lee Khai Ming were also arrested on Friday.

Parti Socialis Malaysia (PSM) leader S. Arutchelvan, and activists Luqman Nul Hakim Zul Razali, Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof and Muhammad Safwan Anang were next.

Late into Friday, Red Shirts activists Razali Zakaria and Ariffin Abu Bakar were also taken in.
