Lorry owners: Strict enforcement good, do it always

PETALING JAYA: Lorry owners have welcomed the strict enforcement of regulations affecting lorry drivers but want a more uniform implementation of the law.

Pan-Malaysia Lorry Owners’ Association (PMLOA) president Jong Foh Jit said the strict enforcement helped better regulate lorry drivers.

“However, it must be done continuously and not when there are complaints or after an accident happens involving a lorry,” he said.

Jong also said the overlapping regulations and laws between enforcement agencies such as the Land Transport Commission (SPAD), the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and police were causing a headache for lorry drivers.

“There are instances where lorry drivers are summoned by JPJ, police and SPAD for the same offence.

“The laws should be enforced in a uniform manner without overlapping jurisdiction,” he said.

Jong said the association was seeking help from Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai to address this issue.
