Body of Year Two student who fell into canal found


DUNGUN: The body of a Year Two student, who slipped and fell into a 600-metre deep irrigation canal while trying to retrieve her slipper from it, has been found.

The body of Nor Auni Sufiya, the sixth of seven siblings, from Taman Setia, Bandar Al Mukhtaffi Bilah Shah here was discovered some 1.5km from where she fell about midnight on Thursday.

Dungun Fire and Rescue Department’s Assistant Commissioner Jaswari Awang, when met early Friday morning, said the department received the distress call at about 6.16pm on Thursday.

“As soon as we received the call, we rushed to the scene and launched a search operation with the help of 15 firemen and villagers along the 3km stretch of the canal,” he said.

The victim was then rushed to a clinic where she was pronounced dead.

She was laid to rest at the Durian Mas Muslim cemetery before the Friday prayers.
