Lorry driver detained after shouting profanities at cop

JOHOR BARU: A 33-year-old lorry driver was arrested for allegedly obstructing and shouting obscenities at a police officer on duty in Jalan Johor Baru-Kota Tinggi near Majidee here.

The man, who was apparently using his mobile phone while driving the lorry with three passengers, was stopped by a police patrol unit at KM10 of the road at 9.20am on Tuesday.

“The man got upset and swore at the policeman and even challenged him to issue him a summons for using the phone while driving,” said Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh.

He said the man from Kampung Sri Jaya, Tampoi was swiftly arrested for obstructing police from carrying out their duties. The three passengers, in their 30s, were also detained to aid in investigations.

“Road users should always obey traffic regulations and give full cooperation to the police if they are being stopped,” he advised.

The lorry driver was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a policeman on duty.
