Teenager takes cops on 10km chase in stolen lorry

SUBANG JAYA: A 19-year-old took police on a 10km high-speed chase in an eight-tonne lorry before it crashed and turned turtle.

In the 10.15am incident on Tuesday, police patrol units spotted a hijacked lorry from Kulai, Johor, on the Kesas Highway near here.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohammad Azlin Sadari said policemen tried to get the driver to stop but he refused and instead, sped away.

“They tried to slow him down but he didn’t stop and even slammed the lorry into our cars a few times,” he said during a press conference at Subang Jaya police headquarters yesterday.

The chase continued past the Kota Kemuning toll where the teenager crashed through the boom gate.

The teenager eventually lost control while trying to make a sharp turn, causing the lorry to turn turtle near Jalan Kebun, Shah Alam.

The youth suffered a broken leg in the crash.

ACP Mohammad Azlin said the teenager had a criminal record, with 14 cases related to drugs, vehicle theft and possession of weapons.

“The case is being handed to Kulai while the teenager is wanted for a car theft case in Petaling Jaya,” he said.

In another case, police arrested five Malaysian men aged 22 to 32, four of them college students, for allegedly peddling marijuana.

The first three were arrested in Sunway with police seizing around 4kg of the drugs from their car on Monday.

The other two were also arrested on Monday in SS12, with about 1kg of the drugs found in their car.

ACP Mohammad Azlin said that it was possible that these men might be connected to the syndicate that saw 16 people, including two students, arrested by police days earlier.
