Thieves steal safe box from condo

SUBANG JAYA: A woman lost about RM200,000 in cash and valuables after burglars stole a safe box from her condominium in Bandar Sunway near here.

Subang Jaya deputy OCPD Supt Lee Swee Meng said the incident occurred when the victim was out with her family in Sekinchan last Saturday while her husband, a businessman, was overseas for work.

Supt Lee said the woman left her home at about 8.10am and returned at about 4.40pm to find her front door wide open.

He said the victim found the belongings in her master bedroom scattered all over and a safe box kept in her cupboard missing.

Supt Lee said the victim reported valuables worth a total of RM204,400, including RM16,000 in foreign currencies, four luxury watches, two gold bars worth RM15,000 each, jewellery worth RM50,000 and other personal belongings missing.

In Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said Iranian Anti-Narcotics was planning to place an officer in their embassy here to cooperate with the police in the war against drugs.

He said this was to exchange information and intelligence as well as experience.

“The war against drugs is the real jihad in comparison to other jihad as drugs can destroy an entire nation,” he told reporters yesterday.

“The drug war cannot be fought alone. It requires Malaysia and some other countries to cooperate closely,” he said.

Also present at the press conference was Deputy Head of Iranian Anti-Narcotics police General M. Mirzae.

Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar received a courtesy call from Mirzae.

Mohd Mokhtar said over the years, the arrest of Iranians involved in drug crime dropped dramatically with a total of 116 cases in 2011 to only three this year.
