KUALA LUMPUR: Thousands of passengers were left stranded at the main terminal building of Kuala Lumpur International Airport when the aerotrain service stopped functioning.
Twelve buses were brought in to ferry passengers to the satellite building at about 10am while in the afternoon, one aerotrain resumed service.
Taking to social media to vent his frustration, Facebook user Max-F.Scheichenost urged the airport authority to think about how to manage the operations of the two aerotrains.
“No information. Only two buses for 1,000 stuck passengers! One person passed out due to your insufficient response. You should think about how to manage your operations if your only two trains are not working,” he posted.
Another user Chia Kin Hoo uploaded a video showing a room, crowded with passengers and cabin crew members.
“Aerotrain down. Shutter (shuttle) bus only every eight minutes. Just look at the crowd.”
In a tweet, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir called on both Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and the Transport Ministry to look into the breakdown.
This is the second such incident in almost two months. On April 8, the aerotrain service was stalled due to urgent corrective maintenance.
In December last year, the aerotrain service again experienced a breakdown due to “technical problems”, leaving hundreds of passengers fuming.
In May 2014, buses also had to be used to ferry passengers after both aerotrains failed to operate properly.
In a tweet, MAHB said it expected heavy flow of passengers in the next two weeks due to the long school holidays and advised all to head early to the airport.
