PETALING JAYA: A 10-year-old girl was allegedly physically abused by a teacher in a primary school in Persiaran Dutamas in Kuala Lumpur when she could not answer a question in class.
According to the girl's father, the incident happened at about 9.30am Wednesday during music class when the teacher asked his daughter a question.
"She did not know the answer and kept quiet, so the teacher asked her to come to the front of the classroom.
"My daughter did not do as asked because she was frightened, and that's when her nightmare started," he said after lodging a police report on the matter.
The male teacher, believed to be in his late 20s, went to the girl and pulled her up by the hair, causing her to fall.
The teacher then helped her up and dragged her by the hair to the front of the classroom where he slapped her in the left cheek.
In the report lodged by the girl at the Sri Hartamas police station, the girl said she almost fell after the slap but held on to a nearby desk.
She claimed that the teacher then told her: "Ini baru sikit. Cikgu boleh buat lagi teruk seperti sepak kepala (This is only a little. I can do worse like kicking your head)."
"My daughter did not immediately tell us about the incident because she was too frightened and traumatised but her best friend, who is also in the same class, told his mother about it when he went home after school," said the father.
He said the best friend's mother called him immediately and told him what had happened.
He said he took his daughter to Selayang Hospital for a check-up and then to the police station to lodge a report.
"My daughter has some swelling in the head and marks on the face where she was slapped," he said.
A source at the school said a report on the incident had been sent to the Sentul district education office.
Federal Territory Education Department deputy director Juahir Mondakir said the matter was being investigated.
