Prominent lawyer falls to death from Johor hotel

A well-KNOWN Indian lawyer in Johor Baru fell to his death from the 10th floor of a hotel, Tamil dailies reported.

L. Parthiban, 57, was reportedly a successful lawyer with two offices in the state.

His driver said he had dropped off Parthiban at the hotel in the city at around 2pm last Friday as he wanted to meet a friend there.

At around 3.45pm, workers and passers-by heard a loud noise near the alleyway between the hotel and another building, where they later found the victim’s body.

Investigations showed that he had allegedly removed his shoes, climbed over the guardrails and jumped from the 10th floor, Johor Baru southern district police chief Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh said.

V. Shankar, 22, had wed a 19-year-old student from the same college.

The girl’s family had reportedly been trying to split the couple up with threats of reprisals.

On March 13, the couple were attacked at a bus station by a group of armed men. Shankar died on the spot from his injuries.
