Jamal: Remove pro-Anwar posters or I will burn them down

PETALING JAYA: Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos has warned Pakatan Rakyat to remove all Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim billboards in Selangor before he burns them down.

"We give Pakatan Rakyat and the Selangor government seven days to remove the billboards. If they do not take them down we will burn them," he said at the "Jom Bakar Papan Iklan Selamatkan Anwar (Let's Burn the Save Anwar Billboards)" demonstration in Ampang on Wednesday.

"I will personally burn them. If it is burnt before I burn it, then it is not my responsibility," he said.

A scuffle broke out between Anwar supporters and around 40 Red Shirt members when, instead of burning the poster, Jamal put up a new banner describing the PKR leader as a convicted sodomist.

The banner reads: "Anwar Ibrahim adalah pesalah peliwat yang telah dijatuhkan hukuman (Anwar Ibrahim is a sodomist who has been found guilty)".

"These billboards have the Pakatan Rakyat logo. Anwar is not a political prisoner. He is a prisoner who has been found guilty, " Jamal said.

He said a strategic location like the one near Restaurant Rasyid in Ampang should have advertisements that are beneficial to the public.

"A billboard can bring in RM10,000 a month, and will translate to RM120,000 a year.

"There are hundreds of Anwar billboards in Subang, Klang, Ampang and Damansara, which can cost over a million ringgit," he said.

"We want to know who has the contract to put them up and from where they are getting the funds," he added.

Meanwhile, PKR vice-president Tian Chua's political secretary Rozan Azen Mat Rasip, who was involved in the scuffle said, "We are here to protest against the burning of the Anwar Ibrahim billboards. Their intent to burn it down is a cheap provocation," he said.
