Tawau hit by two mild quakes

KUALA LUMPUR: Two earthquakes within 17 minutes, measuring 4.2 and 4.6 on the Richter Scale, occurred this morning, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

It said in a statement Tuesday that the first epicentre of the quake was 46 km northeast of Tarakan, Indonesia and 80 km southwest of Tawau, Sabah at 8.01am.

The following epicentre was 22 km north of Tarakan, Indonesia and 105 km southwest of Tawau, Sabah at 8.18am.

The department announced that the tremors might be felt in Tawau but did not pose a tsunami threat.
