Act against Sharul Nizam over threat, cops urged

PETALING JAYA: Police have been “strongly urged” to charge Sharul Nizam Ab Rahim for threatening to sexually assault G25 spokesperson Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin.

“Such threats must not be taken lightly. It is not just an insult to Noor Farida, but it is also demeaning to women everywhere,” said Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie.

Sharul Nizam had recently posted on his Facebook that he was on his way to Noor Farida’s house and would “enter room.”

He then continued that those who pity him should only inform the religious investigative officers the next night.

“At least, aku boleh try dia dulu malam ni (At least, I can try her first tonight.)”

He had also tagged a smiling emoji to the posting, complete with words “feeling wonderful”.

This post was written after G25 made the call to review the Syariah laws on khalwat (close proximity).

Heng said resorting to criminal threat was wrong although Malaysi-ans, being in a democratic country, had the freedom to disagree with any statement.

“I strongly urge the police and relevant authorities to take action against Sharul Nizam, and to make an example out of him.

“What sort of image are we portraying to the world if we were to allow Shahrul to escape without punishment?” asked Heng.

She insisted that no one should be cowed into silence for speaking their minds and said that such bullying tactics must be stopped.

“I advise all to follow the path of moderation and common respect, and to not resort to activities that may destroy our harmonious nation.”
