KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) has revealed that he met with not one, but several representatives of the donor who deposited RM2.6bil to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's personal bank accounts.
The Deputy Prime Minister said this was the reason he used the word "plural" recently when asked to clarify the number of political donors who had deposited the funds into the Prime Minister's personal account.
"I want to explain 'plural', because I met with more than one person representing the donor in question.
"I believe the matter has been explained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in its official statement," said Zahid, adding that his view did not differ from that of the anti-graft body.
Asked to clarify if the donor was an individual or a government administration, Zahid said he would allow the MACC to explain this in detail once its investigations were concluded.
Zahid told AgendaDaily and the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) portal in a recent interview that the donor of the RM2.6bil to Najib was not an individual, but leaders of a government.
He did not reveal much else, except that the donor had also given large sums of money to other countries in the past.
Zahid was quoted as saying that the donation was made because the giver trusted Umno to promote the Sunni Islam faith and rejected other schools of thought.
