State Umno to accept Sultan’s choice

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Umno will accept whoever is chosen as the mentri besar by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Its secretary Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz said Barisan Nasional respected the Sultan’s right to appoint a mentri besar whom he felt was the right candidate to hold the position.

“We had a meeting recently and unanimously agreed to uphold the Sultan’s right to decide on who should be appointed as the Selangor mentri besar,” said Johan when contacted.

He said it was distasteful of DAP and PKR to submit only one name to the palace as the candidate to replace Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

“What they did was not offer Tuanku a choice to select someone but were trying to force him to accept their choice,” he said.

He said Barisan had also tendered several names for the Sultan to choose the mentri besar candidate when the coalition held Selangor.

Johan said this had been the practice all the while.
