Pakatan prepares another 13 statutory declarations

SHAH ALAM: Pakatan Rakyat is preparing an additional 13 statutory declarations made by PAS assemblymen in support of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the new Selangor mentri besar.

Pakatan has unanimously de­­clared it wants Dr Wan Azizah to replace incumbent Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

So far, 15 DAP, 13 PKR and two PAS assemblymen have made their SDs.

PKR treasurer-general William Leong said all 43 statutory declarations would be forwarded to the Selangor palace upon Sultan Shara­fuddin Idris Shah’s return from overseas.

Yesterday, the Sultan’s private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani said the Ruler had ordered Khalid to wait for his return in a few days amid a request by the embattled mentri besar to seek an au­­-dience with him while he was overseas.

In a statement, he said Khalid had requested to meet the Sultan to explain his mentri besar position and inform him of the latest deve­lopments.

“I have presented his request to the Sultan. However, he has decreed that Khalid should wait until he comes home, which is in a few days’ time,” he said.

He said the situation should not be allowed to drag on until November when the state assembly reconvenes.

Leong added that Pakatan would be following the formula approved by the Federal Court in regards to the Perak mentri besar crisis, where the state assembly was not called to replace the mentri besar.

In that crisis, the then mentri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin was ousted when Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir commanded majority support from the state’s assemblymen.

Leong said if the Perak precedent were to be followed in Selangor, the Sultan would summon Khalid to inform him that he did not have majority support in the state assembly.

A former Selangor exco member said Khalid had shown signs of faltering following the pressure on him.

He said Khalid had lost a lot of support and sympathy after he sacked the DAP and PKR exco members early last week.

“That was the turning point in this entire issue,” he claimed.

Another exco member, Rodziah Ismail, resigned mid-last week upon her return from Bangkok.

The four remaining exco members – Iskandar Samad, Dr Halimah Ali, Sallehen Mukhyi and Dr Ahmad Hairi, all from PAS – have remained in the state government as per instructions from their party leadership.
