PASIR PUTEH: Two brothers who started a new business selling their nasi bungkus dubbed “Nasi Terbang Pagi” (morning flight rice) a year ago have seen their food become a big hit among Kelantanese living in the Klang Valley.
Why Nasi Terbang Pagi? Well, it is cooked fresh here and flown to Kuala Lumpur in time for breakfast every day.
Azrin Mohammad, 34, and Abdul Ghafar, 30, sell the famed “Nasi Bungkus Pok Nor” here and have it cooked daily at their home in Kampung Banggol Pak Esah, Bukit Abal, as early as 11pm and packed by 3am.
The packets are sent to the Sultan Ismail Petra airport about 50km from here in time for the first flight to the Klang Valley at 6am so that lovers of nasi kerabu, nasi berlauk and nasi dagang can have it for breakfast.
Azrin added that many thought such an idea was impossible to be profitable but 2,000 packets are sold daily, especially in Putrajaya, Puchong and Shah Alam.
“This is in addition to the 1,500 packets we sell in Kelantan.
“The logistics are tedious because we need at least 20 people to start cooking at 11pm and it must be completed in time for transport at 5am,” he said here.
Missing the flight would mean they would be stuck with 2,000 packets that would go to waste.
Azrin also said that transporters would be waiting at the KL International Airport to distribute the food in the Klang Valley.
“The idea was mooted to ensure that the traditional recipe created by our father Mohamad @ Mohd Nor Zakaria, 68, renowned for cooking nasi berlauk, lives on.”
Azrin added that each packet cost RM4 in the Klang Valley and RM2.50 in Kelantan.
“In Kelantan, Nasi Bungkus Pok Nor is sold at selected outlets managed by single mothers,” said Azrin.
