GEORGE TOWN: A convoy of 100 superbikers leading the hearse of Karpal Singh arrived at the Dewan Sri Pinang on Sunday.

Thousands of people started to throng the building to pay their last respects to the towering figure.

The voluntary patrol unit members set up by the Penang Government can be seen clearing the crowd for the hearse to pass. Several people could be seen waving giant DAP flags at the entrance.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng together with other party leaders were seen laying the Penang flag on the coffin. A small white DAP flag was earlier placed on the casket.

Party leaders have also been waiting inside the hall for the casket bearing Karpal's body to be brought in.

The public can pay their last respects at the funeral accorded with state honours at the Dewan Sri Pinang from 8.30am to 10.15am.

Penang Chief Minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng will deliver the eulogy at 10.15am.

A procession will take place to mark his final journey - a testimony of the impact left by the “Tiger of Jelutong”.

The procession will make stops at places dear to Karpal - the Penang High Court, his office in Green Hall, the Penang state assembly building, his alma mater St Xavier’s Institution (SXI) and state DAP party headquarters in Rangoon Road - before proceeding to the Batu Gantong Crematorium.
