Lahad Datu: Philippine govt thankful for release of mayoral candidate, supporters


KOTA KINABALU: The Philippine government is thankful for the release of mayoral candidate Romel Yusuf Matba and 31 of his companions after they drifted to Sabah waters after their boat broke down.

"We are thankful for the Malaysian government and the police for releasing Romel and his supporters after confirming their identities from our government," said Philippines Embassy consul general Medardo G. Macaraig in a statement Saturday.
