Malaysia and Singapore end deadlock on key issues

SINGAPORE: Malaysia and Singapore have finally broken the deadlock that has plagued their bilateral relations for almost two decades.

They have agreed that the KTM railway station in Tanjung Pagar be relocated to Woodlands in Singapore and the republic’s investment in Iskandar Malaysia has been secured.

It is a major coup for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, who agreed to enhanced features in the Points of Agreement (POA) signed in 1990 on the status and development of KTM Berhad land in Singapore.

The features include:

> Relocating the KTM railway station from Tanjung Pagar to Wood-lands;

> Setting up a joint company M-S Pte Ltd to develop six parcels of land in the republic; and

> Developing a rapid transit link between Tanjung Puteri in Johor Baru and Singapore.

Both leaders also agreed that Khazanah and Temasek will form a 50-50 joint-venture company to develop an iconic wellness township in Iskandar Malaysia.
