Bandar Sungai Long residents get new link to SILK

The new road allows direct access onto the SILK Highway via Taman Bukit Sungai Long. It will benefit some 40,000 residents in Bandar Sungai Long.

A NEW road that allows direct access to the SILK Highway (Sistem Lingkaran-Lebuhraya Kajang Sdn Bhd) via Taman Bukit Sungai Long has been opened.

The two-way road can be accessed via Persiaran Bukit Sungai Long 1.

It is expected to benefit some 40,000 residents in Bandar Sungai Long, who previously had to rely only on Jalan Sungai Long to get in and out of their neighbourhood in Kajang.

The access road was built by Kihuat Properties Sdn Bhd, which is the developer of the Taman Bukit Sungai Long housing project.

It cost about RM3mil and took seven months to be completed.

Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) president Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, Kihuat Properties Sdn Bhd managing director Ter Leong Kee and several elected representatives were present at the access road’s opening ceremony yesterday.

MPKj said in a statement that the proposal to build an access road to the SILK Highway was stipulated by the council to Kihuat Properties, as part of the conditions for the project’s planning permission back in 2002, subject to the approval of the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).

The proposal was a council initiative to address the congestion at Jalan Sungai Long and to provide better accessibility for residents in Bandar Sungai Long.

The developer submitted the plans in 2004 to seek LLM’s approval for the access road.

But the Works Ministry rejected the application in December 2008, on grounds that there was an existing road in Bandar Sungai Long and that the proposed access would increase the highway maintenance cost.

Kihuat Properties and MPKj submitted an appeal to LLM to reconsider the proposal, which was later approved in January 2011 on condition that the entire construction cost be fully borne by the developer.

Kihuat Properties took about three years to get the approval for the detailed design plan, which was based on the needs and specifications set by LLM.

Construction of the access road started in May 2015 and was completed in November 2015.

LLM issued a letter confirming the completion of work this month.

The Taman Bukit Sungai Long housing project is a 32.37-ha site comprising low-cost flats, medium-cost apartments, terrace and semi-D houses, as well as public facilities such as a community hall, stalls and a field.

Other neighbourhoods that stand to benefit from the alternative access include Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Taman Taming Indah, Taman Bukit Permai and Desa Permai.
