Grand farewell for Aseh

Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat bade farewell to his tenure as Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president in a joyous occasion attended by the local authority’s staff.

Clad in a grey baju Melayu with a matching sampin on his last day of work on July 31, Aseh greeted his staff who came to his office to say their goodbyes.

At the press conference with the media, he recalled the memories he made during his three-year tenure as PPj president.

Under his leadership, Putrajaya underwent major changes.

For one, Putrajaya has become a spot for international events such as Putrajaya International Dragon Boat Festival, FIA Formula E Putrajaya ePrix, Red Bull International Air Race World Championship and 2014 Ironman Putrajaya.

When Aseh first joined PPj, he started customer service day, which takes place every Wednesday.

Aseh recalled that he used to meet up to 30 people, who would lodge complaints on various issues in Putrajaya.

“But recently, there is a drop in the number of complaints and on Wednesdays, instead of meeting me to lodge complaints, they came and proposed ideas for events in Putrajaya,” he said.

Complaints have dropped by 70% in Putrajaya, thanks to PPj staff who came together through a WhatsApp group to alert the relevant departments of the issues.

Aseh thanked the PPj staff who were exceptional during his tenure.

“I had a team of young employees who would help me organise events in Putrajaya.

“They are the ones who turned Dataran Gemilang into a popular spot for events,” he said.

To breathe new life into Putrajaya, PPj organised many events, such as Program Langkah Ceria – where the public would walk around the city – and Program Kayuhan Ceria to promote Putrajaya as a sporting and recreational destination.

Some signature events were given a makeover, such as Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon, Putrajaya Flower and Garden Festival (Royal Floria) and Putrajaya Fishing Circuit.

Under Aseh’s tenure, he had also urged developers to build affordable housing in Putrajaya.

“There are thousands of government servants in Putrajaya and more than 10,000 housing units will be built in the first stage of 1Malaysia Civil Servants’ Housing,” he said.

He believed that if they owned a house in Putrajaya, there will be a sense of belonging, compared to living in government quarters.

“Indirectly, it could help to boost activities in Putrajaya,” said Aseh.

Putrajaya has turned into a hub for various things and he hoped that everyone will continue working together to develop the city.
