KUALA LUMPUR: George Kent (Malaysia) Bhd accepted the letter of award from the Public Works Department to build a 220-bed endocrine hospital in Precinct 7, Putrajaya for RM364.9mil.

“This contract will bring our total order book to over RM6.2bil, an all-time high for the group,” said Tan Sri Tan Kay Hock, who is the chairman of the construction engineering company.

The hospital will be built next to the current Hospital Putrajaya. It includes the design and construction of a hospital extension complex with a link bridge to existing main building block of Hospital Putrajaya and a multi-storey car park.

George Kent said the 36-month contract is scheduled to be completed by January 2020. This contract is the fourth hospital it is building on a turnkey basis for the Health Ministry.

The company had completed building the Kuala Lipis Hospital Phase 1 in 2012. It is now building the second phase of Kuala Lipis Hospital and Tanjung Karang Hospital.

Tan pointed out the completion of various engineering construction projects including the Panching Water Treatment Plant, Phase 1 of Hospital Kuala Lipis and the Ampang Line LRT Extension had given the government confidence in awarding another project to George Kent.
