SIMUNJAN: Permodalan Nasional Bhd’s (PNB) unit trust funds have reached 210.63 billion units in circulation as at Oct 31.

PNB chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said the trust funds were owned by 12.86 million unitholders.

“Out of this, 89.5% are bumiputras and 10.5% non-bumiputras. In just a month we have succeeded in generating over one billion units in circulation,” he said in his speech at the launch of PNB Fiesta Labur at Simunjan town hall in Simunjan, Sarawak, on Saturday.

The event was officiated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri who is also Batang Sadong Member of Parliament.

Abdul Wahid said out of the total units in circulation, 11% were held by investors in Sarawak.

“This places Sarawak in the third position...a commendable achievement. I am confident the the Sarawak community’s participation can be increased in the future,” he said.

PNB Fiesta Labur adopts the ‘go to the ground’ concept in a bid to get closer to the community especially those who live in rural areas.

Meanwhile, Nancy in her address at the launch said since 2008 till now PNB has organised 650 seminars throughout Sarawak.

She said the seminars had attracted the participation of 60,000 people from all walks of life.

“I am proud as Sarawak is placed among the top positions in PNB’s investment profile.

“I congratulate the people of Sarawak on their determination and concerns in financial planning for the future. Investment in PNB is a voluntary investment and there’s no compulsion to invest, whether from PNB or the Government,” she said.

However, based on the Sarawak people’s belief and confidence, they continued to give the trust to PNB to manage their investment.

“This is the Sarawak people who are farsighted and do not want to be left behind in personal development for the future,” she said. - Bernama
