Banknotes with new governor’s signature out soon


New RM50 banknote with new Bank Negara governor Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim's signature.

KUALA LUMPUR: Ringgit banknotes bearing the signature of governor Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim will go into circulation in stages from tomorrow (Sept 29), beginning with the first batch of RM50 banknotes.

Bank Negara said in a statement that these banknotes were identical to the present banknotes series currently in circulation.

Banknotes bearing the signature of former governors are still legal tender and will continue to circulate with the new banknotes.

Muhammad was appointed as the eighth governor of Bank Negara for a five-year term starting May 1.
