AirAsia sponsors KBS Korean drama

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia is sponsoring Korean romance drama On the Way to the Airport by Korean Broadcasting System (KBS).

The region’s largest low-cost airline said in a statement that the drama, which stars Lee Sang-yoon and Kim Ha-Neul, explored the relationships of thirtysomethings working in the aviation industry, with the main characters depicted as an AirAsia pilot and cabin crew.

“All filming of scenes related to the aviation industry and scenes in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, were fully sponsored by AirAsia,” it said.

To celebrate the sponsorship and on-air debut of the drama, AirAsia will hold a prize giveaway for viewers, which includes goodies such as scale model aircraft signed by AirAsia’s brand ambassador in South Korea, Park Ji-Sung.

To participate, simply capture images of AirAsia that appear in the first and second episodes of the drama and upload them to AirAsia’s official Korean language Facebook page (www.facebook.com/airasiakorea).

On the Way to the Airport airs at 8.55pm today (Friday) on KBS World Channel, Astro Channel 391 or 392, with reruns on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

AirAsia North Asia president Kathleen Tan said: “AirAsia has always had a close relationship with popular culture. This sponsorship is a good way to support the Korean entertainment industry as well as to showcase both our brand and the airline industry in general in Korea and elsewhere in Asia, where Korean dramas are widely enjoyed.”
