Beauty entrepreneur Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman (pic), better known as Dr Vida, will be speaking at the upcoming Malaysian CMO Conference on Sept 6.
She may not be in mainstream marketing as we know it, but Dr Vida, who is the founder of Pamoga & Qu Puteh (Vida Beauty), is far from your usual marketing entrepreneur. The savvy businesswoman has redefined the promotion of local beauty products with a larger than life personality. Her trademark pose of two fingers lightly touching her chin and a sequinned tiara completes her look as a shining star in Malaysia’s beauty market.
Her sponsorship of TV shows with her tagline “Qu Puteh, Qu Puteh, barulah putih” has become a catchphrase to her audiences across the nation. Her two season sponsorship of the Kelantan soccer team results in a name change to include the names of her two biggest selling products and a change in the state’s jerseys and stadium colours to bright Barbie pink!
An ardent F1 fan, this flamboyant trailblazer owns a Lamborgini Aventador, Bugatti and several other supercars.
She speaks impeccable Chinese and once said: “With the experiences I have gone through in the business, consultants won’t understand what I am trying to do. They only know how to talk, and say what I want to do is illogical, so I don’t want consultants.”
When asked by a reporter on how to survive in a tough market, she declared: “If the economy is slow, I will ‘boom’ again with my appearance and people will continue to buy my products.”
