Rapid KL to charge RM4 for parking at new LRT stations

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid KL will start charging motorists for parking at the new light rail transit (LRT) stations RM4 per entry from Monday, Aug 15 after the expiry of the free promotions.

It said on Friday the fees will be imposed at the “park n ride” facilities at the stations at Ara Damansara, Glenmarie, USJ21, Alam Megah, Subang Alam and Putra Heights.

“Parking at motorcycle bays and bicycle racks at these facilities, however, remains free of charge,” said Rapid KL spokesman, Lim Jin Aun.

Constructed under the LRT Line Extension Project (LEP), the park and ride facilities were opened on June 30 when the new stations were opened.

“Free parking was offered since June 30 as part of Rapid KL’s initiatives to promote usage of the LRT services for commuters especially among the residents in the neighbourhood. This promotion ends on Augt 14,” added Lim.

Lim, who is the head of group communications and strategic marketing for Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, advised the public to park only at designated areas within the “park n ride” areas.

He advised motorists not to park along the side of the road and road shoulders and they could not only affect traffic flow but the vehicles could also be issued summonses or risk being towed away.
