Malaysia’s inflation rate climbs 2.7% in December on-year


Food prices higher in December

The Statistics Department said on Wednesday the consumer price index (CPI) was up 2.7% to 114.8 compared with 111.8 a year ago.

The rise in the CPI was led by increases in the index for alcoholic beverages & tobacco group by 22.8%; restaurants & hotels (+4.7%); food & non-alcoholic beverages (+4.6%); health (+4.6%) and furnishing, household equipment & routine household maintenance (+4.2%).
