Star Wars: Battlefront promises to merge LucasFilm lore with the action spectacular Battlefield franchise, but a brief making-of teaser offered insight into the developing studio’s excitement rather than the 2015 product of its efforts.

Opening Electronic Arts’ 2014 E3 press conference was a two-minute featurette on work at EA’s Swedish studio Dice, custodians of Battlefront.

But rather than show too much conceptual footage, when a year or more’s worth of critical development time still remains, Dice opted to focus on the preparatory work already undertaken.

A visit to the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum in San Francisco and field trips to real-world film locations served to capture not only the models, props and environments used in the movies but “the emotions they invoke as well.”

Battlefront is expected to coincide with the theatrical release of Star Wars Episode VII, due December 18 of next year.

“We at Dice are hard at work creating the best Star Wars shooter of all time, to carry that legacy into the future with Battlefront,” wrote design director Niklas Fegraeus on EA’s Star Wars blog.

“For us, this is just the beginning of a new adventure, and we are looking forward to showing you more in the spring of 2015.” — Relaxnews 2014
