Friendly frontliners needed at KLIA

RECENTLY, my family and I went for a holiday to Rome and London.

Our first destination was Rome. It’s a beautiful place with friendly people.

During the tour to the various spots in Rome, we met many locals and were always asked the famous question: “Where are you from?”

We proudly said Malaysia and, to our surprise, this drew either frowns or blank faces from the locals. We had to mention our neighbours down south and north. The mere mention of these countries, drew smiles and acknowledgement from them.

My husband was promoting our country and urging the Italians to visit Malaysia and see how beautiful our country is.

We have “Visit Malaysia Year” campaigns now and then but it is apparent that more needs to be done to promote our country overseas.

When we were at the immigration counter at the KL International Airport for the departure, it is sad to note that the officers who are our frontliners did not bother to greet the travellers.

When I approached one of the officers and wished her “Good Morning”; there was no response to my greeting.

Lots more needs to be done if we want to attract visitors to our beautiful country.
