Scene of Tapah murders attracts curious onlookers

TAPAH: Police here carried out the second stage of their investigation into the murders of four people reported missing.

At 3pm Tuesday, the police's forensics team arrived to comb the home cum workshop on Jalan Pahang for further evidence into the murders, which have gripped the small town near Cameron Highlands.

The presence of the police brought droves of curious onlookers who lingered at the scene until dusk.

The group got especially excited when police led a young girl believed to be one of the daughters of the main suspect to the crime scene.

State Deputy Crime chief Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said the girl was merely a witness.

"As it is, the number of arrested suspects remain at four as reported," he said, denying that police had made further arrests including the two daughters of the main suspect.

"It is also untrue that the main suspect's daughter had tipped off police on this case.

"All these are just rumours," he added.

ACP Fadzil further declined to divulge information on the four victims, saying that DNA reports were not ready.

At a press conference in Ipoh on Monday, state deputy police chief Deputy Comm Hasnan Hassan had told reporters that the murders were the result of a failed land deal as well as debts.

One of the victims was also believed to be a worker at the workshop and had reportedly stolen vehicle parts from there.
