KUALA LUMPUR: Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos (pic) has warned of "another commotion" at Petaling Street if demands by the red shirt protesters are not met.
"If the authorities do not take action, I am 99% confident that a gathering will take place and maybe a rusuhan (riot) will take place there as well," he told reporters at Ampang Jaya police station where he lodged reports over accusations against him in social media and Whatsapp on Wednesday.
Jamal said the thousands of protesters who took part in the rally at Petaling Street on Sept 16 could return to protest at Petaling Street this Saturday.
Jamal is acting as an intermediary between the group and the authorities.
Among the group's demands are that the Domestic, Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry act against the alleged sale of counterfeit goods in Petaling Street, the traders share a portion of their income with other races and stop a monopoly in the area.
"It is up to the authorities if they do not take action by Friday. If a commotion takes place, I am not responsible," he said.
The red shirt protesters are expected to meet Jamal, who heads a coalition of Malay non-governmental organisations behind the Sept 16 rally, on Thursday for another discussion.
Jamal said he had also met the ministry's director-general of enforcement to deliver the demands of the group.
On Sept 16, thousands of people wearing red gathered outside Petaling Street and had minor clashes with police. Two policemen and one protestor were injured.
