GEORGE TOWN: A 31-year-old debt collector was gunned down in Gelugor here while he was riding his motorcycle to his house in Bayan Lepas.
Abbas Zol Fakar (pic) took one bullet in the head and another two on the right side of his chest, the police said.
The incident occurred on the flyover connecting Jalan Jelutong to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.
He was killed instantly during the 8.30am incident yesterday.
Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Zakaria Ahmad said initial investigations showed that the victim had no criminal record nor was he a member of any gang.
“He was shot at close range.
“We are still trying to determine the motive of the killing.
“We have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he told reporters at the scene.
SAC Zakaria said that a Rapid Penang bus driver heard the shots as he was driving by and called the police.
A stray bullet also ricocheted off the bus window. There were no passengers in the bus.
Also seen combing the scene for evidence was Penang Hospital’s senior consultant forensic pathologist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh.
