Deputy Editor with The Star passes away

PETALING JAYA: Reena Gurbaksh (pic), a journalist with Star Media Group, died from a heart attack on Wednesday night in Kuala Lumpur. She was 48.

Having served with The Star from 1992-2010, Reena rejoined The Star last year as deputy editor for Life Inspired, a fortnightly pullout.


During her years away from The Star, Reena devoted her time to her children, and freelance and media consultancy work.

While she was with The Star, Reena wrote extensively about women’s issues, lifestyle, fashion and travel for Star2, StarMag and Flavours magazine.

Life Inspired editor Sunita Chhabra said: “She was a wonderful person – kind, caring and ever willing to help everyone. Reena was truly beautiful, inside and out.”

Reena did her early education at the Sultan Ibrahim Girls School in Johor Baru and graduated with a Bachelor of Law with Honours from University of Buckingham.

She is survived by husband Anand Ponnudurai, daughter Riya Ajani, 17, son Nikhil Ahan, 15, mother Diljit Kaur and sister Harvinder Kaur.

The funeral cortege will leave 4 Lorong 12/10B, Seksyen 12, Petaling Jaya, at 3pm tomorrow for the MBPJ Crematorium in Kampung Tunku.
