Last chance for traffic offenders

KUALA LUMPUR: The time is up. Yet, only 2% of the 1.59 million arrest warrants for traffic offenders have been settled.

Ops Warta will begin tomorrow and traffic offenders who have yet to settle their summonses should watch out.

Bukit Aman traffic chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Fuad Abdul Latiff said only 33,473 arrest warrants had been settled.

“This is rather disappointing as we have given them more than two weeks to settle the arrest warrants.

“Beginning Monday, we will be going all out to serve these warrants of arrest,” he said when contacted.

He said during the two-week grace period, 217,048 summonses were also settled.

“I have instructed all traffic summons counters to be opened this weekend to ac­­commodate a surge to pay up summon­ses,” he said, advising those who had yet to settle their outstanding warrants to use the last day wisely.

Bukit Aman has also worked together with the Employees Provident Fund and National Registration Department to track the addresses of traffic offenders.

SAC Mohd Fuad said multiple warnings had already been given over the past two years.

“If you are stopped at a road block and we find out that you have an outstanding warrant, we will take action. Don’t be surprised if you are stopped at a roadblock and are placed under arrest,” he said.
